After a few hairy days of battling fires in Volusia and Brevard counties, officials there say progress is being made.

State wildlife officers are investigating the death of a homeless man who apparently fell overboard while trying to save another man from the waters of Ponce Inlet off the Volusia County coast.

A fire caused an estimated $80,000 in damages to a single-story home in DeLand on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.
